Ground Turkey and Pancetta Meatballs

Ingredients for Meatballs

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 4 ounces pancetta
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, minced
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Pizza seasoning (or Italian seasoning)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs

Ingredients for Sauce

  • 2 28-ounce cans crushed (unsalted) plum tomatoes
  • 1 28-ounce can whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Directions

  1. Place ground turkey, pancetta, kosher salt, pepper, pizza seasoning (or Italian seasoning), egg, garlic, thyme and bread crumbs into a large bowl.
  2. Gently mix together with a fork.
  3. Form 2-inch balls and set into a Dutch oven or large pot.
  4. Pour tomatoes over meatballs and add kosher salt, pepper, red pepper flakes and Italian seasoning and stir. Gently stir meatballs into the sauce.
  5. Cook on Medium to medium-low for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally to keep meat balls off bottom of pan.
  6. Serve with your choice of pasta.
